Chad Gerlach is a former professional cyclist from the United States. He was born on November 28, 1975, in Sonora, California. Gerlach began his cycling career racing mountain bikes, but he soon transitioned to road cycling. He turned professional in 1998 and competed for various teams throughout his career, including the U.S. Postal Service and Team BMC. Gerlach was known for his aggressive style of racing and his ability to climb mountains.
However, Gerlach struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol throughout his career, which ultimately led to his retirement from professional cycling in 2005. After leaving the sport, he continued to battle addiction but eventually entered rehab and has been sober since 2010.
In recent years, Gerlach has become an advocate for addiction recovery and has used his experience to help others struggling with addiction. He has also worked as a cycling coach and commentator.
